In a world where we’re told who to like, what to be and how to think, her intent is to uplift and inspire all people to follow their own dreams. Loving yourself more means you can love others more. When did you realize that you wanted to be a singer? I knew I wanted to be a singer when I was 9 years old. I shamelessly love being in the spotlight, I can’t get enough. Combine the stage and singing, and I’m completely swept away in the magic of it all! I’m more at home singing onstage than at home. It’s more of a necessity for me than a desire. For a good chunk of time in my early 20s, I got caught up in society’s idea of what constituted a “successful” life and I was absolutely miserable. When I started performing full-time in 2015, I realized that it was my calling. It’s not just what I want to do, it’s what I must do. Tell me about your path to becoming the musician you are today? I’m a self-taught singer. I’ve always been completely smitten with music. I danced classical ballet for 20 plus years, music is in my body. When I was 9 years old, my mother, a classically trained pianist, asked me to try singing something for a voice over project she was working on and her musical ear caught the potential in my voice. I was hooked and became obsessed. I’d come home from school and sing for hours almost everyday. I’d mimic artists like Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, and my favourite, Alicia Keys. My own style developed from there with lots of 80's style power-belting and well-placed, vocal runs. Not only are you a singer, but you also write your own lyrics. What is your inspiration? My inspiration can come from anywhere! It’s magical like that, especially when I’m in sync with myself. It’s like this other stream of consciousness pops into mine with a lyric, melody, or an idea and then I build from there. Sometimes I’ll dream of a fully produced song and when I wake up, I try to write down or voice record as much as I can before it fades away. It takes zero effort when the song is just there! I also like to take intentional writing sessions where I meditate and ask for whatever wants to come through me. Something beautiful almost always comes to life when I write like that because it's from my heart. Lately, I’ve been writing a lot about love, not romantic love, but necessary, life-giving love; uplifting and inspiring lyrics that make people want to love themselves and others, and make them want to do something passionate with their lives. I think the world needs love now more than ever with all the confusion, pain, fear, and upheaval happening on a global scale. Music is universal, so it’s really a perfect way to spread a message of love. ©2024 What's On! Mission. All Rights Reserved. What's On! Mission is published under license from Blueberry Publications.
