Three decades ago, a small group of passionate individuals came together with a shared vision: to keep Mission a beautiful, clean, and healthy place to live. Today, the Mission Environmental Stewardship Society stands proud of the eco-conscious community we have become.
Previously known as the Mission Adopt-a-Block Society, the Mission Environmental Stewardship Society (MESS) works with youth and local residents to promote environmental stewardship and eradicate litter from the City of Mission. As we mark MESS’s 30th anniversary, our society feels overwhelming pride for the impact we have made on our community. Under a dedicated board of directors, MESS has coordinated the removal of hundreds of thousands of pounds of waste from the streets, waterways, trails, and parks in Mission. We want to thank the incredible volunteers who have participated in our initiatives over the years. Without you, none of this is possible—here’s to 30 more years! To learn more about our programs, visit www.messociety.ca. "PEOPLE, PUPPIES AND PETALS" by Julie Brassington & Kathy Blore is now on in the Rock Gallery at the Mission Arts Centre, 33529 First Ave. Realistic oil paintings of dogs, beautiful flowers and exceptional portraits of well-known people. This exhibit runs until November 30th, Tuesdays - Saturdays from 12-4pm.
For more information, visit https://missionartscouncil.ca/eventcalendar/ The rainy, cold weather didn’t stop participants from joining Lacey Development’s Mo’ (Movember) Than a Walk 5km walk/run to raise funds and awareness for men’s health issues like prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health and suicide prevention.
Thanks to this event, the support of Fitness Lab and Take 5 Oil Change, and other initiatives throughout the month, Lacey Development has surpassed their $7,500 fundraising goal! There’s still time to contribute! Donations remain open until the end of the month. Every contribution makes a difference in supporting men’s health: https://ca.movember.com/team/2422615. The Clarke Theatre was bustling with holiday shoppers at the Mission City Farmers Market Winter Christmas Market and moviegoers attending the City of Mission's community screening of “Ms. Christmas Comes to Town”. It was the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit!
