Opening Nite Theatre is thrilled to present Welcome to Paradise, a heartwarming and thought-provoking play by Julie Marino, directed by Hazel Eason. The production runs from February 28 to March 16, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM at Pekw'xe:yles (St. Mary’s), 34110 Lougheed Hwy – in the chapel at the front of the building, facing the river.
Set on a secluded Caribbean island, Welcome to Paradise follows the unexpected bond between Rory, a free-spirited traveler, and Evelyn, a fiercely independent woman determined to maintain control over her life. Their chance meeting unfolds into a compelling friendship that challenges generational perspectives and personal assumptions. However, when Evelyn’s overbearing son and his family arrive, tensions mount, secrets emerge, and the very notion of paradise is called into question. With sharp humour, touching moments, and a hint of mystery, Welcome to Paradise explores the essence of human connection, the meaning of home, and the risks we take to truly embrace life. Don’t miss this witty and poignant production that reminds us that paradise isn’t always what it seems. Tickets are available at www.openingnitetheatre.com/box-office. A tale of love, fate, and the power of music, Hadestown blends mythology with the soulful sounds of New Orleans jazz. Don’t miss the chance to support these talented young performers as they bring this Tony Award-winning musical to life. This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Hadestown: Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown, modified for performance by teen actors for family audiences. Recommended for ages 8 and above. Including intermission the show run time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Orchestrations, and winner of four 2019 Drama Desk Awards, six 2019 Outer Critics Circle Awards including Outstanding New Broadway Musical and winner of a 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. This cold chilly evening, the community of Mission came together for the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY), a nationwide initiative raising awareness and funds for individuals experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. This year's walk successfully raised over $19,000 in support of Mission Youth House - MY House and Hope Central, two organizations dedicated to providing essential services to vulnerable individuals in the community. The Coldest Night of the Year is an annual winter walk held in cities across Canada, encouraging participants to step into the shoes of those facing housing insecurity. The event highlights the challenges of surviving the cold while rallying communities to take action. In Mission, walkers bundled up and braved the elements to show their support, demonstrating the power of collective compassion. Events like CNOY remind us of the struggles many individuals in our community face daily. The funds raised will directly support programs that provide food, shelter, and a path forward for those in need. Although the walk has ended, donations remain open for those who wish to contribute to this important cause. Community members can still make a difference by visiting https://cnoy.org/location/mission to donate. |
