From the basement studio of Stepping Stone Music Company, 6 singers started the Joy Vox community choir in September 2001. The choir was founded and conducted by Liisa Nessim, who loves harmonies and offering opportunities for singers to expand their skills. Laura Wheeler is the accompanist/assistant conductor. Over the years, 6 grew to 40 members. When the pandemic hit in 2020, it did not stop them from making music as they continued to sing together online. Slowly, they started up in person rehearsals with masks on.
This is truly a community choir with members of all ages from both Mission and Abbotsford. They come from all walks of life, their only common bond being love of music and singing. They are not afraid to try something new and always ready to expand their abilities. They will be celebrating their 20th season of music at their concert on May 14th at 7:00pm. Guest performers, Jennie Bice and Mara Hatklin, will join them as they celebrate their past and future. Nick Renaud will also be a guest conductor at this performance. The stage will also be shared with their audition choir, Voce Destino. These ladies were handpicked for their ability to blend and their work ethic. Only 12 singers with powerful voices will show Joy Vox’s roots and beginnings. The stage will also be shared with their audition choir, Voce Destino.
