Submitted by Gallery 7 Theatre This fall, Gallery 7 Theatre is offering two exciting theatre productions sure to entertain, inspire and provoke thought. In November, audiences can thrill to a new adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ classic novel, Prince Caspian, by Canadian playwright, Damien Atkins. Then, in December, audiences can enjoy a heart-warming and romantic Christmas comedy, Parfumerie, adapted by E.D. Dowdall from the Hungarian play, Illatszertar, by Miklos Laszlo.
Prince Caspian, directed by Gabe Kirkley, will feature the work of artists and technicians from around the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland. The fantastical production will run November 8 & 9, 12 – 16, 2024 at 7:30PM with matinees on November 9, 16 & 17 at 2:00PM at the Abbotsford Arts Centre, 2329 Crescent Way. Journey back to Narnia in this thrilling new adaptation first presented as part of the 2023 Shaw Festival. The Pevensie children are travelling by train when they are suddenly and magically transported back to the fantastical world of Narnia.Over a thousand years have passed since their last visit, and war once again consumes the land. The children join forces with Prince Caspian to defeat the evil King Miraz to restore peace and freedom to the kingdom. A story of courage, hope, and strength of character emerges in this highly theatrical stage adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved novel. Parfumerie, which inspired the movie, You’ve Got Mail starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, and the Broadway musical, She Loves Me, will be directed by Sarah Green. This warm-spirited holiday comedy will run December 13 & 14, 17 – 21, 2024 at 7:30PM with matinees on December 14 & 21, 2024 at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way. It’s Christmas, 1937 in Budapest, Hungary. George works in a parfumerie. Before the holiday, his boss suddenly fires him just for mistakenly believing he’s having an affair with the boss’ unfaithful wife. Meanwhile, George’s actual love life is thrown into chaos when he discovers the stranger he has been corresponding with by mail is none other than Amaila, a co-worker he constantly fights with. For the employees of the parfumerie, only the truth can lead to a happy resolution in this old-fashioned, romantic Christmas tale. “We’re very excited to be bringing these two very special shows to our stages this fall,” enthuses Ken Hildebrandt, Managing Artistic Director. “These shows fit perfectly with our vision for the season – exploring people “under pressure” and navigating challenging life circumstances – and with our mandate as a theatre – to bring the community entertaining and thought-provoking theatre for the heart, soul and mind. There’s plenty of adventure, fun and romance to be had as we follow our heroes through extraordinary situations.” For tickets and more information on these and all other shows in the company’s 2024-2025 “Under Pressure” Theatre Season, please visit www.gallery7theatre.com or call 604-504-5940.
