Suiting for Weddings

5/27/2025

Suiting up for Weddings. Spring is springing, and with the change in weather, we see plenty of couples approaching their big day. There is a huge amount of planning that goes into weddings, and while we won’t pretend to be experts on napkin folding techniques, we are experts when it comes to getting dressed. Here are some tips for tasteful and timeless wedding attire.

Coordinating Colours
Colour is often the top priority number one for many couples, typically because weddings have a cohesive aesthetic and the clothes need to match the, for lack of a better term, “vibe”. The big piece of advice here is not to overthink it. Colours don’t need to match 100% of the time, they just need to photograph well together.  Outside of that, the world is your oyster. We’re happy to integrate your existing aesthetics into your suits.

It’s all about having a fit
While priority number one for most couples is colour, our top priority is ensuring your clothes fit you properly. There is a huge difference between an untailored garment and a tailored one, even if we’re just making sure your sleeves are the correct length. Tailoring in men’s wear is designed to accentuate your best features, and the suit is a flattering garment to begin with. The big trend this year is a movement away from slim and skinny-fitting pants back to a more timeless straight or slim straight leg. This creates a lovely silhouette that brings the attention back to your face and away from your shoes.

Accessory Considerations
  • Your belt should almost always match your shoes. You generally do not want mismatched leathers.
  • Black pants should not be worn with brown shoes, wear black.
  • Avoid wearing both a belt and suspenders/braces.
  • Your tie should complement the wedding party. It’s important to remember that a little texture goes a long way in bringing your colours together and making your photos pop.
  • If the groom and groomsmen wear white dress shirts, they should be similar in shade to the bridal dress, as mismatched whites create some odd-looking photos, and can make the dress appear “dirty”.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, of course. If you’re having trouble getting started, come see us! No appointments are needed, and our doors are always open. We recommend a four-month window for dressing a full wedding party - so the time is now!

See you soon, and congratulations on your wedding!
